Great Vibrations
Get fit in half the time with vibration training...
Originally developed by Russian space scientists in the 1970s to help their cosmonauts achieve peak physical fitness for space flight, vibration training is the most effective way to get fit in the shortest possible time.
While American astronauts who trained on conventional equipment were forced to return after 120 days due to muscle wastage, the Russians were able to stay up more than three times as long due to their vibration training advantage. Since then, vibration technology has been widely used to give Olympic athletes an added edge.
But why is vibration training so effective?
"Because", says Phil Phitt, expert personal trainer with online fitness and health portal, Getfitter.com, "with vibration training, there is a massive increase in the percentage of muscles used versus 'normal' workouts. Vibration training recruits nearly 100% of muscle fibres, against the 40%-60% recruitment normally achieved. Vibration training achieves this by creating an almost continuous stretch reflex in muscles. This is known as 'tonic stretch reflex' and means that muscles are contracting at incredibly high frequencies, which also subjects them to considerable forces. With the muscles contracting at such high frequencies, almost everything is stimulated faster and more effectively. Vibration training will cut your workout time in half."
Most of us will have heard of vibration training in association with the Power Plate. Power Plate's UK spokesman, says he's lost track of how many celebrities have bought a machine. But they include Madonna, Claudia Schiffer and British actress and Bond Girl Gemma Atherton.
Gemma says of vibration training,
It's a workout method that fits in with my schedule and helps me achieve my fitness goals, even when time is limited. I have already noticed the results and I just love the buzz I get after a workout. I also feel stronger and more energized.
But unless you're a celebrity or a WAG it's unlikely you can afford to pay the £1,500 and upwards it costs to buy a Power Plate.
Getfitter.com's hand held vibration training device, the 'Vibration-Bar' is a great alternative to the Power Plate – it is fun, portable and at under £30, incredibly affordable. And once you've finished your workout you can just slip it under the sofa until next time!
What makes Getfitter.com's Vibration-Bar so effective is that it works all muscles in the entire body, and works them hard. Shaking the Vibration-Bar causes a vibration to be passed through the body. This vibration stretches the muscles out of their natural alignment. Misaligned muscles send an automatic message to the brain, via the nervous system, that they have been stretched. The brain sends a message back to the muscles telling them to contract, in an effort to bring them back to their 'normal' state. And because the Vibration-Bar causes these involuntary contractions to happen 270 times each and every minute – you achieve great results very quickly.
Getfitter.com's Vibration-Bar can work your whole body from head to toe, tone your wobbly bits, sculpt you into great shape, and help you to lose weight fast. It's also fantastic for post-natal mothers as it targets those deep core muscles which have been stretched out of shape by pregnancy.
The Vibration-Bar is also safe to use and helps prevent injury by letting you know when your muscles are tired. If your muscles have had enough, your bar will simply not work!
And in only three fifteen minute sessions, in the comfort of your own home, you can achieve the 'half an hour of exercise three times a week' that is recommended for maintaining great health.
